James St (North, Hamilton) is a one stop street for the variety it offers. A good walk or a short drive has two breweries, shops, a beautiful heritage church and many boutique cafes with English, Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Italian, Mexican, Portuguese, German, French and Caribbean cuisines.

Starting from York/James St intersection. First stop is Merit Brewery. Set in a beautiful building with high ceilings it offers unique craft beers. It has a nice beer hall with shared community tables and a small menu. Great place to start exploring the street.

Examples of some unique brews:

Nowhere: Coconut Vanilla Imperial Stout English Humour: A fruity IPA brewed with skins of Merlot

A vibrant Latin grocery store with Mexican summer drinks and grocery items.

An authentic Mexican restaurant with real fruit-based margarita, excellent food and a pleasant setting.

Next to the heritage church is Bar Sazerac, well known for its cocktails. It has a local cult following for its narrow, long and cozy interior.

A local favourite and a long running Portuguese bakery. Authentic pastries, drinks and food. European cafe vibe with table service. Friendly crew and customers.

A local cafe well known for its interior set in a heritage building. Famous among those who drop by to work here with their laptops. Has coffee, beer, wine and light food.

A pub that allows you to bring your own food. Vibe of a small town German pub with dim, candle lit interiors. Excellent collection of unique local and imported beers.

A modern Italian restaurant with a surprisingly large interior. Serves Neapolitan stone grill pizza…

A cool, board game styled spot famous with locals and students. Has a small cafe as well. Always busy in the weekends.

Next door to Merit Brewery is this Viet Thai Restaurant. Definitely try their Tom Yum soup base Pho’s… Yum!!

Another authentic and rustic Mexican restaurant well known for its good food at affordable prices. Excellent mocktails!

A great place for authentic homemade Chocolates in amazing variety. Definitely try their hot chocolate!!
